According to hokiesports.com it looks like Virginia Tech has indeed rescheduled it’s September 4th  game against Central Michigan to October 9th.  The only plausible reason for such a move is to free up Labor Day to travel to FedEx to play Boise State. I expect an announcement confirming this soon.
Here are the positives and negatives from both the Bronco and Hokie perspective. I’ve been against this move for two reasons:
- A lean non-conference schedule will give our young defense and late blooming offense a chance to gel.
- I’d like to see Boise State play a blockbuster game during the middle of the season.

The other shoe has dropped via @JeffCren
FedExField, the home of the Washington Redskins, will be the site when Virginia Tech hosts Boise State University on Monday, Sept. 6. The kickoff time will be released at a later date.

This is our new Thursday night thread. We hope YOU our readers and friends in the blogosphere pop your heads in and engage in a little conversation.
- Virginia Tech-Nebraska. The Hokies look to sweep the two-year two-game series with Nebraska. The Huskers are improved, hungry and capable of gorging themselves full of turkey. Thoughts?
- BYU-Florida State. With a win BYU can tout an impressive out of conference resume that could be enough to send them to the MNC. Florida State is looking to prove they’re the proverbial “back”. Thoughts?

H/T: Mike Bianchi - Texas-Texas Tech. How many points will the ‘Horns win by or are you going “guns up”? Thoughts?
- Boise State-Fresno State. Any time, anywhere (except on the Smurf Turf). Well Pat Hill you got ‘em at home. Thoughts?
- Big Ten Redemption. OSU and Toledo tangle in front of a crowd with brown bags over their heads. Sparty travels to South Bend to crash Charlie Weis’ buffet line. Thoughts?
- Arkansas-Georgia. The only time pigs and dogs get along together is in Vietnamese cuisine. They are both relatively unknown quantities.  But more importantly, were Mark Richt and Christopher Walken separated at birth? Thoughts?

The SEC is king cotton, again. It must be all that speed. The Big 12 is a close second, but after that it’s not even close. I am very surprised to see the Pac-10 last among the BCS conferences (which includes their very strong bowl record). One explanation for their record being so abysmal is their round-robin schedule. Since they play 9 conference games they only played 2 and then 3 non-conference teams. In most cases the teams they played were formidable 1a opponents and not 1aa cupcakes. For all the crap the ACC takes it narrowly edges out the Big Ten for third in total non-conference wins. That doesn’t include BC’s 5-1 non-conference record in 2004 (Big East). However, the Big Ten posts a better winning percentage 69% to 66%.
One thing missing are the non-conference wins/losses versus just BCS conference teams. But other than the Pac-10 the BCS conferences as a whole schedule (and get wins) against the same number of 1aa schools. Also BCS opponent doesn’t necessarily mean good opponent, ie Utah (non-BCS) and Iowa State (BCS).
| Conference | Non-Conference Wins | Non-Conference Losses | Win % |
|---|---|---|---|
| SEC | 195 | 59 | 78% |
| Big 12 | 187 | 67 | 74% |
| ACC | 168 | 86 | 66% |
| Big Ten | 164 | 73 | 69% |
| Big East | 146 | 67 | 69% |
| Pac-10 | 118 | 64 | 65% |
| MWC | 104 | 85 | 55% |
| C-USA | 96 | 145 | 40% |
| Ind | 88 | 94 | 48% |
| WAC | 87 | 110 | 44% |
| MAC | 80 | 175 | 31% |
| Sun Belt | 49 | 132 | 27% |
