NCAA 10 is a Steaming Pile of Shit

For the two weeks prior to NCAA 10’s release I sported a hard on that can only be described as Pinocchio stuffed down my pants exclaiming, “Mi piace, Mi piace!” And now my digital season is over before the biological one begins. EA Sports promotes NCAA 10 as authentic college style gameplay. FYI no one wants that shit. Gamers want a fun arcade style simulation. Or at least I do and that’s all that matters around here. This is what they should have developed: NCAA 09 + Online Stability Improvements + Online Dynasty Features (custom conference) + Updated Rosters. Instead this is what we got… Continue Reading “NCAA 10 is a Steaming Pile of Shit” »

First Thoughts NCAA 10 Demo

I just got done downloading the NCAA 10 demo for XBOX 360 and here’s a stream of notes as I play my first game of the year.

gator heavy qb blast First Thoughts NCAA 10 Demo
Gator Heavy QB Blast is Unstoppable AND it sets up the fake lob pass

  • Florida is A+, A+, A+ I don’t remember any team earning three A+s.
  • The demo rematches Florida versus Oklahoma (A+, A+, A). From 1,000 miles away I hear Billy Sims yelling BOOMMAH, so Sooners it is.
  • I’m no pussy and am playing this game on Heisman so when I win they can just immediately change the record books.
  • The band on the field marching around during the coin toss is one of those niceties missing from last year’s edition.
  • First new feature encountered is offensive and defensive game plans. Uhh score a lot of points on offense and don’t give up any on defense…

NCAA Football 10 is Looking Incredible

TeamBuilder is online and awaiting your highschool, all-time and 1aa rosters.

TeamBuilder is an all-new, online create-a-school feature that revolutionizes the user’s ability to produce personalized content for NCAA Football 10. The teams created via the TeamBuilder web application will be available for use in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions of NCAA Football 10 when the title hits shelves on July 14th. The original packaging of NCAA Football 10 will contain a code that unlocks 12 slots, allowing users to save up to 12 created teams to the console hard drive. Those who pre-order NCAA Football 10 will receive a code for an additional 13 slots, allowing them to save 25 created teams directly to the console hard drive.

In addition to, the complementary Gamestop Red Bull, thrill of beating someone at 2am on 7/14 an additional 13 slots seems like another good reason to pre-order.

It only took 10 years, but strategy may trump repeated R2 or B-Buttoning. We welcome you gameplanning, setup plays and defensive keys.

The I-Form Power O and PA Power O plays are a great example of just how unrealistic the AI was in NCAA 09. All game your opponent’s linebackers are filling holes and his strong safety is containing the boundary while you’re gaining a meager 4 yards running the Power O. You think everything will work out in the end because you are setting him up for play action. When you run the PA magically the linebackers and safety drop in coverage and the defensive lineman swim over your o-line, bing-bang-boom, sack.

The Flexbone is back! And Acurate!

Last summer we were able to acquire the actual coach’s game film of the Navy Flexbone offense.  Having access to this valuable resource really gave us an advantage when it was time to identify what new formations that we needed to create, what plays did we need for those formations, and most importantly what new player animations we needed to mo-cap in order to get those plays working properly in our game.  The results of our efforts produced eight new formations and over 200 new plays.

Georgia Tech and Navy will have the AI to finally be a challenge.

Around the Interwebs

Both Spencer and Holly both weigh in on Tennessee commit Daniel Hood.

Long story short Daniel was convicted of sexual assault on a female relative when he was 13 and has been reforming his life since.

Sam Keller is suing the NCAA and EA Sports for using his (and every other college football player’s) likeness in the NCAA Football video game franchise.

With rare exception, virtually every real-life Division I football or basketball player in the NCAA has a corresponding player in Electronic Arts’ games with the same jersey number, and virtually identical height, weight, build and home state,” the lawsuit said. “In addition Electronic Arts often matches the player’s, skin tone, hair color, and often even a player’s hair style.

Sam you’re 100% right and you should be compensated, but it doesn’t matter. The NCAA has and will continue to run a billion dollar business that doesn’t play its employees.

The Big 12 coaches voted against changing the conference’s divisional three-way tie breaking procedure. The coaches’ recommendation will be taken under consideration when the ADs make the final decision at the end of the month.

Your NCAA 10 Cover Athletes

Yesterday Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree was revealed as the fourth athlete to be featured on one of the four platform exclusive NCAA 10 covers. Crabtree joins Utah quarterback Brian Johnson, Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo and USC quarterback Mark Sanchez, who were announced early in the week, as the respective cover athletes for PS3, PSP and PS2. It was assumed that either Crabtree or Percy Harvin would earn the Xbox 360 cover and you have to wonder if Harvin’s positive marijuana test had him pulled at the last minute.

NCAA 10 (Online) Dynasty Improvements

  • A quick overview of the dynasty goodness that’s coming our way in NCAA 10
  • Custom Conferences – Yes you can finally move all 12 members of your online dynasty into the same conference so you can eliminate the majority of the CPU fluff games. Also reforming the SWC sounds very appealing to me.
  • Players Leaving Early – This bug has been fixed. Yay!
  • Recruit five-star players in the Off-Season – This is a really good idea. When in-season recruiting was introduced it made off-season recruiting pointless, because 90% of the 5 and4 star players had already committed. Now we will have fresh blood to go after.
  • Revamped Call Player Screen – Seeing how each call impacts a recruit will be very helpful. I hope the rework the quick call AI to first unlock everything, then do pitches for you.
  • Competitive Recruiting – Totally awesome.

NCAA Football 10 Wishlist

My Xbox 360 is involved in a monogamous relationship with NCAA Football 09. Aside from Tecmo Super Bowl it’s the only video game I play regularly (growing up sucks).  I’m a pretty hardcore player. My Virginia Tech dynasty is going for their 10th National Championship in 10 seasons, I play in three online dynasties, logged over 100 online games and I’ve recently undergone the task of making Washington football into the elite of the Pac-10. Yes, I really do miss those fall Saturdays…

While I consider the NCAA franchise to be the best football game available, there are still some features missing that I’d like to see in the upcoming NCAA 10 release. Which from the picture below is looking quite bad ass.

Without further adieu I present CollegeGameBalls.com’s NCAA Football 10 Wish List

  • A more evolved Wildcat. An eight play package was a good start, but more plays and variety are needed for it to be really effective.  Creating a new Wildcat position would be helpful, because it would be nice if your 99 speed corner could take the snaps.
  • Better bump and run AI by the secondary. It really annoys me when I bring my secondary up to press for them to immediately run backwards and let me opponent turn a 5 yard slant into a huge gain.
  • No more challenges and instant replays. Yes it makes the game more realistic, but a video game is an officiating utopia. Don’t intentionally make the wrong calls so it seems more lifelike.
  • Bring back throwback jerseys complete with helmets.
  • Add the option of determining the national champion by a playoff to dynasty mode. Obviously the BCS rules the real college football world, but NCAA 10 can get it right.
  • Improved game day atmosphere: referees on the field, players showing emotion after a big play, chain gangs moving up and down the sidelines, more realistic sideline and fan animations.
  • Chippier rivalry games: pushing, shoving and jawing
  • Complete control over your custom playbook and audibles that you can bring online.
  • Better offensive and defensive line play, right now its one step above big mounds of digital flesh bumping into each other.
  • Multiple pre-snap shifts.
  • Neutral site games in dynasty mode.
  • Fix the broken offensive plays, QB Read plays haven’t worked since their inception.
  • Give us something new and fresh that we haven’t dreamed up yet.

We welcome any other additions in the comments.
