Washington Receives Commitment from Nick Montana

A few days after missing out on one of the biggest-name quarterbacks in the state, the Washington Huskies rebounded by getting a commitment from the son of one of the biggest name quarterbacks in football history. Nick Montana of Oaks Christian High in Westlake Village, Calif., and the son of Hall of Famer Joe Montana, said Tuesday night he has given a commitment to UW and will sign with the Huskies next February. Around the Interwebs

Have you ever wanted to read an in depth, and we’re talking cavity search deep, explanation of how the BCS works and why it sucks so much? If you pressed one on your touch-tone phone check out this great post by Amphibious Sports Duo.

Tommy Tuberville who has the fine distinction of going 12-0 in the SEC and not getting a chance to play for National Championship resigned fired from Auburn yesterday.

Nick Saban is a little pissed off at all the SEC firings.

I really question some of the judgment relative to how it is for our game that people who have those kind of relationships and have done that kind of job and affected so many people in a positive way – and have had a reasonable amount of success relative to their circumstances – would not be given more respect and consideration than what these guys have been. So I guess we’re 5-7 away from the same thing.

Texas still has a chance to play for the National Championship. Expect an upheaval from Jort National if this scenario unfolds.

Washington has been in contact with Mike Leech. Look U-Dub if you want to seal the deal you will change your nickname from the Huskies to the Pirates.

Potential future failures at the University of Washington include: Les Miles, Chris Peterson, Pat Hill, Will Muschamp, Gary Pinkel and Dennis Franchione.  Our crystal ball gages their interest levels: no, no, no but I’de like to schedule you in 2010, no, no and are you guys really that desperate.

Dr. Lou is sick of the incompetence at Notre Dame.

“[On the 2009 Notre Dame schedule] you’ve got Nevada, you’ve got Connecticut and Washington State and Washington … the schedule is not as tough now as it was then,” Holtz said.

“People say the academics are too tough … the academics are a great asset at Notre Dame. When you do recruit an individual who has a [solid] academic background, you have as good a chance of getting him as anybody else because of your combination of football and academics. And the alumni can help the graduates.”

“The stadium now seats 80,000. What in the world… I can’t see any reason that Notre Dame cannot continue to compete for a national championship.”

I’m sure he’ll be glad to know they are going to compete for a second consecutive losing season, because they won’t turn down a bowl bid.

Brian Kelly doesn’t want Tennessee to ruin his season too.  He’s probably a little pissed his future employer just lost #1 all around running back recruit David Oku.

Which Lame Duck Will Jim Mora Replace?

Its almost been two years since Jim Mora Jr. was fired by the Atlanta Falcons after failing to make the playoffs.  If you remember Mora wrote his own pink slip when he expressed interest in eventually becoming the head coach of the University of Washington on a Seattle sports-talk radio show.  Mr. Home Depot Man, Falcons owner Arthur Blank thought he should be a little more concerned about the team he was actually coaching.

Interviewer: If it ever works out, if there’s an opening, and you’re available, we want you to coach the Huskies.

Mora: Well, I really have a lot of respect for Ty, and I know he’ll do a great job. But if he ever decides to move on, and get in the NFL or you know, go back to Notre Dame or whatever, if that job’s open you’ll find me at the friggin’ head of the line with my resume in my hand ready to take that job.

Interviewer: If you’re available.

Mora: It doesn’t even matter if I’m available.

Interviewer: So if you just won the Super Bowl, and it’s available, you’re there?

Mora: I’d be there

Interviewer: You’re there, OK.

Mora: Dewey, I promise you that. Now, I want to see Ty succeed, and I want to see that program succeed. But if he decides at some point that he’s ready to move on and they want me, I will be there. I don’t care if we’re in the middle of a playoff run, I’m packing my stuff and coming back to Seattle.

Well it is 2008 and try as he might Ty has failed.  On Monday it was announced that he would no longer be the UDub coach after the season’s end.  And the good news for Husky fans backing the quick hire of Mora over a lengthy interview process is he is already living in Seattle. The bad news is he is there coaching for the Seahawks and has been promised the head coach gig for the 2009 season.

Soon enough it will be gut check time for Mora.  He will have to make decision between the Huskies and the Seahawks, because I have no doubt that Washington will come-a-callin. After all, they’ve seen how successful a struggling Pac 10 program can become after hiring a young energetic former NFL coach.

Sorry, there are no polls available at the moment.

No One Cares About Notre Dame @ Washington

Washington sucks, the Ty Willingham story is sooo plaaayyeed and everyone not affiliated with Notre Dame hates Notre Dame. America doesn’t care about this game. It shouldn’t be on in primetime even in local markets.
