divine Divine Predictions – Week 4

Jesus Cup Standings
Team Wins Losses
TCU 8 0
BYU 6 2
Notre Dame 6 2
Boston College 6 3
SMU 4 4

Feel free to sleep in, or get an extra day of worship in, because there isn’t one game before 3:30 worth getting up for.

Wake Forest 24 @ Georgia Tech 42 – Wake is usually good for one big ACC road win a year, and so for they are oh-for. But there’s no way in hell (pun intended) they’re coming away with a win from Bobby Dodd.

She’s Tougher than Ricky Stanzi

carol walden Shes Tougher than Ricky Stanzi
Carol will you be my football Grandma?

Not even a broken hip could keep septuagenarian Carol Walden from her Hawkeyes.

“Better call the doctor, and so I did and she said ‘you better go to the hospital’ and I said ‘OK,’” said Walden. But Walden didn’t go right away.
When asked if she was ready to go she said no, “I have to see the Hawkeyes win.”

The raspy lows of Eddie Podolak’s voice must’ve knocked her right out of her rocker. Kidding aside, Carol you dedication and conviction are admirable.

This is the latest example of an elderly college football fan besting the fandom of any member of  the Internet generation. Two Thursdays ago lifelong Husker Rex Plock was in medically induced coma for six days, but briefly woke up to watch Big Red beat Mizzou.

According to his other daughter, Deb Kapperman, a nurse in Lincoln: “He said if I don’t get to see that Nebraska football game, I am going to be really mad.”
By late Wednesday, he had weakened, but by Thursday morning, Plock was chipper, bugging his family about when the football game was going to start.
“It was amazing,” said Kathy Cane [Plock's eldest daughter].

The bar has been set high you Twittering beer bongers.

Jesus in the house. What? What?

divine Divine Predictions – Week 4

Nebraska 23 at Mizzou 21 – Let’s get frisky! Corn Nation and Rock M Nation are betting taglines on the outcome. Orson has this bitch factored and it’s not not looking good for the Huskers or, well, maybe it is… I like Nebraska because I saw man-child Roy Helu Jr. conquer the souls of eleven Virginia Tech defenders almost three weeks ago.

Auburn 38 at Arkansas 31 – It’s goin’ be a shootout in Fayetteville. I give the edge to Auburn because they can put up points, and they’ll play better defense.

Tyrod Taylor, I Can’t Quit You

I’m a fan. Obviously. This here shit-show is my release of emotion and thought (intelligent or otherwise). And with less than two minutes to go on Saturday while sitting in the East Stands of Lane Stadium I was mentally penning an obituary for the Hokie’s 2009 season. Dyrell Roberts had failed to catch a laser thrown by Tyrod Taylor on 4th down. I thought, it’s over. I yelled, “Fuck! You’ve got to be absolutely fuckin’ kidding me. I cannot believe we’re going to lose this fucking game.” The string of eff-bombs would have continued had a composed, tan, grandfather aged man, with a leather face and grey hair not asked me to stop.

It was now up to the defense. And what do you know, Foster’s boys answered the bell and forced another punt (Pelini should have went for it on 4th and 1). A guy behind me muttered in disgust, “let’s throw it up in the air four times and get the hell outta here.” Some fans had seen enough and were exiting the stadium. I guess they couldn’t stand to bear witness to a failed comeback attempt.

Then to everyone’s surprise this happened… Continue Reading “Tyrod Taylor, I Can’t Quit You” »

This is our new Thursday night thread. We hope YOU our readers and friends in the blogosphere pop your heads in and engage in a little conversation.

  1. Virginia Tech-Nebraska. The Hokies look to sweep the two-year two-game series with Nebraska. The Huskers are improved, hungry and capable of gorging themselves full of turkey. Thoughts?
  2. BYU-Florida State. With a win BYU can tout an impressive out of conference resume that could be enough to send them to the MNC. Florida State is looking to prove they’re the proverbial “back”. Thoughts?fsu mormon wives Group Think with YAll, Me, Christopher Walken and Mark Richt
    H/T: Mike Bianchi
  3. Texas-Texas Tech. How many points will the ‘Horns win by or are you going “guns up”? Thoughts?
  4. Boise State-Fresno State. Any time, anywhere (except on the Smurf Turf). Well Pat Hill you got ‘em at home. Thoughts?
  5. Big Ten Redemption. OSU and Toledo tangle in front of a crowd with brown bags over their heads. Sparty travels to South Bend to crash Charlie Weis’ buffet line. Thoughts?
  6. Arkansas-Georgia. The only time pigs and dogs get along together is in Vietnamese cuisine. They are both relatively unknown quantities.  But more importantly, were Mark Richt and Christopher Walken separated at birth? Thoughts?

Gameday Signs and Alabama, things are heating up.  As for the signs we’ll have them all again this year. As for tossing more peanut oil on the Chick-fil-A Kickoff fire, F4H incited the masses with his post Why the Hokies Have to Beat Alabama. What started off as a insightful list, quickly degraded into a “we hate the SEC”, “RTR!” argument.

We guess this sign gets as much of a response as a “honk if you like fat chicks” bumper sticker. Never let our daughters go to Kentucky, never let our daughters go to Kentucky. Rich Brooks thinks soliciting women via signs is bullshit.

Coolers. Don’t take advice from the blowhard at your local Walmart, trust the experts at Block-C. Willy Mac outdoes Consumer Reports with his review. Nebraska on Marve’s Short List

Citing Nebraska’s football tradition as a selling point, the father of ex-Miami quarterback Robert Marve confirmed Thursday his son does have the Huskers on his short list as he ponders where he might transfer. “Nebraska is great football country with great football tradition, and we’re honored with the interest that they’ve put forward towards Robert,” Eugene Marve said. “I’ve talked personally to the coaches there and am really impressed with the no-nonsense approach to football that they take there. That’s why we’re interested, it’s Nebraska football.” (HuskerExtra.com)

Andre Smith peaced out the NFL combine unexpectedly Saturday.

Smith, considered among the top three prospects at his position, abruptly left the NFL scouting combine Saturday, skipping his workout and flying to Alabama unannounced. He told the NFL Network he did so to continue preparations for his March 11 pro day on campus.

Smith, who didn’t feel ready to perform for teams here, had been booked on a 4 p.m. flight but changed his reservation to leave at 6 a.m.

Obviously he had to make sure he was home on time for his mom Nessa’s Saturday dinner.

Nebraska QB to be will transfer. Patrick Witt was the off-season favorite to replace Joe Ganz in Lincoln. Official outlets close to the situation are mum as of now

“We have no comment and Patrick has no comment. He’s leaving,” Gene Witt said Sunday night.

However, Nebraska message boards are full of conjecture and supposition. The most popular theory is JUCO transfer Zac Lee is more mobile (a trait desired by offensive coordinator Shawn Watson) has been practicing with the starters and looking impressive in 7 on 7 drills.  The wackiest thing I read is that Patrick was intentionally teaching true freshman Cody Green the wrong signals.

Slumdog Millionaire banked eight Academy Awards including Best Picture and Director, Danny Boyle. From the opening torture scene through the ending musical number Slumdog had me on the edge of my seat. You can see the full list of winners here.
