I haven’t had the heart or stomach to watch the replay, but at the end of the day we laid an egg. As F4H pointed out the defense buckled on third downs, Tyrod made mistakes, the offensive line wilted and the coaching all around was pretty awful. Regardless of what scheme we run (on either side of the ball) the players need to execute and the coaches need to adjust and make intelligent decisions. As of late, we haven’t been doing either.
What really miffs me is our lack of focus. We still had an outside chance at the ACC Championship, a respectable bowl game, another ten win season, etc, etc. We were playing a team, at night, at home, who had very little to play for, who had their hearts ripped out a week ago and they were flat out hungrier and wanted it more. We could have had Urban Meyer relaying plays to Bill Walsh and we would have still lost.
Don’t mistake this semi-angered fully hungover rant as me making excuses and sticking up for Stinespring, he’s part of a, larger, problem. I’ll continue to be an optimist, because as I get older I realize there’s always next year. Furthermore, our problems are fixable because we’ve seen (Miami, BC) what this team looks like when everyone (coaches, players, ball boys, water boys, cheerleaders, Skipper, the Marching-fucking-Virginians) are hitting on all cylinders.
Finally I’ll give you this statistic just so everyone realizes there’s still a long way to go:
11/1/08: 5-3 (2-2)
11/1/09: 5-3 (3-2)
And yes in both years we were coming off of back-to-back losses. Go Hokies, beat ECU.

VT didn’t lose on Thursday nights when we were in school. I blame today’s kids and their goddamned cell phones.

@jake – Those were absolutely hideous, but at least we didn’t come out in black. I want to lead a movement that will make the throwback whites our new uniforms for both home and away.

@cgb….I would like to join that movement.

Ha it is true everyone is on their cell phones now days. Put it down and watch the game, you can look for booty call after the game. Also I have been disappointed in the lack of in game drinking by students. What happened to the days of smuggling in bags of rum.
