ACC Roundtable 4: Non-Conference Report Card

Brian and Jeff, proprietors of BC Interruption, who spend most of their time being quiet with their wives at Ann Taylor Loft, Bed Bath and Beyond and Starbucks have earned 30 minutes of funsies time. I’m ecstatic they’ve decided to spend it with us ACC assholes.

Now that most ACC teams’ non-conference schedules are winding down and we are starting league play, it’s time to take the vitals of the ACC’s play in non-conference action. Here is how the ACC fared against the rest of college football through 4 weeks (based on my back-of-the-envelope math):

BCS Conference Record Win Pct.
vs. Big East 2-2 .500
vs. Pac 10 1-1 .500
vs. Big XII 1-2 .333
vs. SEC 0-2 .000
The Rest Record Win Pct.
vs. MAC 1-0 1.000
vs. I-A Indep. aka Army 1-0 1.000
vs. Conference USA 2-1 .666
vs. Sun Belt 1-1 .500
vs. Mountain West 1-2 .333
vs. FCS I-AA 9-2 .818
Overall 19-13 .593

Comment on your team’s (if applicable, sorry Miami) and the conference’s non-conference performance through 4 weeks. As a conference, what head-to-head record against another conference stands out to you most?

As a conference our performance has been horrible, abominable, putrid and pathetic. Losing games to I-AA teams is unACCeptable (Zing!). There would’ve been 3-5 more adjectives and perhaps a couple of “fucks” to describe the ACC vs outsiders had the Hokies not notched a quality win against Nebraska and had a passable showing against Alabama.

(Because we like to fan the ACC vs. Big East flames …) The only BCS conferences the ACC has a .500 record against so far this year is the Big East (4 games) and the Pac-10 (2 games). Yikes. In a weekend where 2 of 3 Big East teams knocked off ACC teams, we have to ask. The ACC is still > Big East, right? Right??

Two words: Yankee Bowl

On a scale of 1 to 10, where 1 is losing to a CAA team [edit: Virginia] and 10 is getting the ACC some much needed street cred by winning the BCS MNC, how satisfied are you with your AD’s non-conference scheduling this year? With the non-conference opponents your program has lined up over the next few years, will you be more or less satisfied?

Y’alls rankings are too domesticated, I’m two chicks at once satisfied. We’re only one of a handful of programs that doesn’t have a I-AA team on the schedule. Furthermore, we had two games against premier schools: Alabama and Nebraska. Finally, we get a chance at revenge on Thursday night against ECU in Greenville. Unfortunately, this amazing schedule, much like two chicks at once, is a once in a while thing. Next year we’re dancing with two groupies (directional Michigans),  a booty call (ECU) and the girl next door (Boise State). We’re meeting Boise at a friend’s house (FedExField, Landover, Md) so we’re on common(-ish) ground. You say that we’ve got nothing in common, No common ground to start from…

Last one, ESPN’s College GameDay is heading to Chestnut Hill this week for Florida State (2-2) at Boston College (3-1). Both teams are unranked. Parts of the blogosphere are going completely ape s**t [edit: shit] over the WWL’s selection. Justify the selection (if you can). If not, tell us why you dislike the selection.

GameDay is going to do a feature on ACWL (Animal Champion Warrior Legend) Mark Herzlich and that is reason enough for me to like the decision. And honestly is there really a better choice out there?

  • LSU @ Georgia? The Four-Letter isn’t going to promote a CBS game.
  • USC @ Cal? Yay, let’s truck our asses out to the west coast to entertain the handful of fans waking up at 4am. False.
  • Oklahoma @ Miami? GameDay + Guns = No Thank You.

No there isn’t. The New England girls will be out in their Ugg boots and sweatshirts so enjoy the show.
