I’m a fan. Obviously. This here shit-show is my release of emotion and thought (intelligent or otherwise). And with less than two minutes to go on Saturday while sitting in the East Stands of Lane Stadium I was mentally penning an obituary for the Hokie’s 2009 season. Dyrell Roberts had failed to catch a laser thrown by Tyrod Taylor on 4th down. I thought, it’s over. I yelled, “Fuck! You’ve got to be absolutely fuckin’ kidding me. I cannot believe we’re going to lose this fucking game.” The string of eff-bombs would have continued had a composed, tan, grandfather aged man, with a leather face and grey hair not asked me to stop.
It was now up to the defense. And what do you know, Foster’s boys answered the bell and forced another punt (Pelini should have went for it on 4th and 1). A guy behind me muttered in disgust, “let’s throw it up in the air four times and get the hell outta here.” Some fans had seen enough and were exiting the stadium. I guess they couldn’t stand to bear witness to a failed comeback attempt.
Then to everyone’s surprise this happened…
Eruption. I’m drowning in a sea of human flesh. A sweaty arm is draped around my scorched neck while I’m wrapped in the grasp of a bear-hug. Four other bodies are piled on top and we’re all leaping, screaming like a lucky bastard who hits “Red 7″ on the roulette wheel.
What a victory. What plays by Tyrod. What catches. And what a feeling that the previous words inadequately describe.

Woot! Its like a backwards, and way more awesome version of the BC game from 2007. I guess it was our turn.

I really can’t recall a time that VT made a comeback like that. We just don’t do last minute comebacks. We better get our shit right soon because we got lucky on this one. Also please stop running the option it is a joke. At least watch how Navy has ran the option in the past.

Nice offensive play. I would have typed plays, but, you know…
In all seriousness, sweet win. Isn’t it fun?

@jake, @Robert I thought the same thing, about time we won one of these close games.
@Maggs It was the most exhilarating three minutes of my life.

@Robert, the GT game a few years ago in Atlanta was a big comeback, but not necessarily last seconds. The Miami game in 2001 would have been that comeback. I don’t blame Wilford for the dropped pass though. I blame Noel for 4 interceptions.

@toph
Yep VT was down 21 to 7 after the 1 quarter during the 2006 game. One of Sean Glennon better games. I am glad that Calvin Johnson is in the NFL now.

@toph You’re right that the Thursday night game from 2004 is hard to forget. That got all the momentum behind our first ACC Championship run.

@cgb Yeah, the 2004 GT comeback was awesome. That was one of my favorite seasons.
Dont forget about the ‘95 UVA game

And of course, “the miracle in morgantown”, which I like to replay in my mind, and chuckle to myself as I walk around this place…
