Brian asked me to host this week’s edition of the BlogPoll Roundtable. I’ve no doubt disappointed him by getting it published so late.
1. Which freshman impressed you more last weekend: the California dream Matt Barkley who quarterbacked USC over tOSU or white lightening Tate Forcier who slashed through Notre Dame? Which one would you like to have on your team? Feel free to write in another worth candidate.
While winning on the road, at night, in Columbus is a marquee tick on the left hand side of the column Forcier was more of a factor in the Michigan win. Forcier was instrumental in guiding Michigan’s final drive and had his first “moment” when he threw the go-ahead touchdown. And I’ll continue the gush fest by saying I want Robert on the Hokies. Again it is not a knock on Barkley, our offensive line just couldn’t block for him. Forcier seems like he has a great instinct for knowing when the pocket is going to collapse. And obviously once outside he can make the play.
2. Let’s play a game of pretend the unthinkable happened. Commissioner __________Â of your conference has been forced to resign after he was caught canoodling with some harlots. Great news, you’ve been chosen to succeed him. To make your mark you decide to make a big change. What is it going to be?
Let me start off by saying I am disappointed with Commissioner Swofford’s decision to engage in purely fictional but oh so questionable night time, in the car, on the desk and behind the bar activities. I feel like there needs to be some positive big time news. So to shake things up I’m doing away with the Atlantic and Coastal divisions and instituting a round-robin schedule. Furthermore I’m prohibiting teams from playing I-AA schools. Now that the NCAA allows us to schedule twelve games we can showcase our brand of football to our fans all season long. Schools can schedule any one I-A opponent to fill their schedule, but I encourage them to challenge themselves by playing the best competition available.
3. This week the quality of games is kicked up a gear. Other than your own, which game are you most looking forward to?
I’m chomping at the bit for Georgia Tech-Miami. In part because it kicks off the aforementioned decadent week of games also because it will pair well with happy hour beers. Most of all I’m interested in seeing just how good VT’s upcoming competition will be. Together they’ve beaten the top two contenders from the Atlantic division, which negates VT’s cross division scheduling advantage. I don’t think either are world beaters, but they are both capable of winning the conference. If I had to pick I would like Miami to win, since the Hokies get them at home.
4. What mascot and/or tradition would you thieve from another school if it was socially acceptable.
Colonel Reb…

It’s such a shame the Colonel was forced into retirement. http://www.saveolemiss.com/
…because I’m always having what he’s ordering. As for a tradition:
because on game day I usually have too much of what the Colonel was having and I like to get rowdy and curse.

Although Barkley going into Ohio State for the marquee game of the short season is more impressive than beating an overrated (as usual) Notre Dame team as Forcier did I still have to give the nod to Forcier.
While Barkley impressively managed the game as he needed to Forcier was more integral to his offense in a game where his team really needed it.
Needless to say Barkley is surrounded by more talent at USC than Forcier at Michigan and that final consideration solidifies my placing Forcier’s performance in week 2 as more impressive than Barkley’s.
