RIP Steve ‘Air’ McNair
By now you have heard that former Alcorn State, Tennessee Titan and Baltimore Raven quarterback Steve McNair was found dead on Saturday. McNair was found dead along side 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi who apparently was his girlfriend. McNair’s death has been ruled a homicide, but it hasn’t been determined if Kazemi’s was a homicide or suicide. We were too young to remember McNair’s 1994 Heisman campaign, so our fondest memory is of him trying to carry the Titans to victory over the Rams in Super Bowl XXXIV.
ECU’s Onerous Out-of-Conference Schedule
East Carolina won’t have to worry about a false sense of accomplishment with an opener against Appalachian State in Greenville, followed by road trips to West Virginia and North Carolina and an early Thursday night date in November with Virginia Tech, which has a 15-4 record on ESPN’s national showcase. Those four opponents went a combined 38-16 last season.
Are we writing about this because J.P. Giglio referred to Virginia Tech as “Kings of Thursday Night”? Yes, but that’s only half the reason. Skip Holtz and and ECU athletic director Terry Holland need to be commended for assembling a non-conference schedule that is as intelligent as it is grueling. We love the schedule for the following three reasons: (1) playing nearby powerhouses showcases ECU to local recruits (2) they’re going to be on national/regional TV (3) if by some chance they go 11-2–13-0, it will add legitimacy to their season.
Paul Myerberg has BC ranked 60th in The Quad Countdown. Our friends from BC Interruption will no doubt take exception to this. Plus they were snubbed in his Where Boston College fans congregate section.
Podcastted. Is that with two Ts or one? Anyways check out the latest goodness from In the Bleachers and The Solid Verbal.
We hope everyone had a relaxing, alcohol filled and firework capped 4th of July and is returning to work today with all of their fingers.
