Charlie Weis pondered leaving Notre Dame.

Leave Notre Dame. Return to the comfort zone of an NFL coordinator’s job. End the abuse, the kind that led son Charlie Jr. to skip school for three days after the Irish’s home loss to Syracuse. “We talked about all that as a family, and we felt that we didn’t want to leave that way,” Weis said during a recent 35-minute interview with the Tribune. “That would have been the easy way out. That’s not why we came here.”

I guarantee if Weis goes 7-6 again this year the decision to stay another year won’t be his to make.

It took Jackie Sherrill helping Mississippi State with just one practice before the NCAA began investigating the program.

More than once, Sherrill appeared to interact with and instruct players during the workout. That might have violated NCAA bylaw 11.7.2, which limits schools to one head coach, nine assistants and two graduate assistants working with players. Bylaw 11.7.1.1.1.4 allows for the use of consultants to train the staff, but that consultant can’t interact with players unless he is counted against the limit.

Dan Mullen’s story is Sherrill was brought in to coach the coaches. Beep, BEEP, BEEP! Oh I’m sorry that’s our bullshit detector going off. Come on Mullen, Sherrill may have been MSU’s most successful coach, but in the end he did more damage than good for the program. Keep him away.

The Clemson starting quarterback job looks to be in doubt for Willy Korn, because  Kyle Parker tore up the Clemson spring game. Korn’s followers at http://www.willykorn.org/ are sad.

The redshirt freshman completed 13 of 21 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown, running for 27 yards and another score while leading the White team to a 30-13 whipping of its Orange counterpart in the Tigers’ annual Orange and White game.

Parker’s day of excellence didn’t end there. He’s also plays outfield for the Tiger’s baseball team. He went 2-4 with a home run against Miami.
