Ed Podolak retires after 27 years of being Iowa football radio analyst after photos of drunken debauchery hit the blogosphere.

Podolak was given the ultimatum to seek alcohol treatment and come back or step down. He chose the latter. The Wiz ran the photos last Friday after they surfaced on an Iowa State message board. They were re-posted at hundreds of other blogs when at some time, obviously, an Iowa official saw them.

Elder Tribesman of Blogfrica Brian Cook blasted Jay Christensen, owner of The Wiz, for posting the photos.

I’d like to personally congratulate Jay Christensen of The Wizard of Odds, by the way, for posting these photos in a bid for cheap hits and costing a guy even Iowa State fans think is pretty awesome at his job. Good work there. You’ve contributed greatly to the national discourse of college football with this. Love the utter lack of remorse in the follow up.

Can you really blame Christensen though? If you find the photos newsworthy you don’t, but if you feel like Brian does you do. As a reader of the The Wiz the guy doesn’t take a lot of, if any, potshots. But, a guy drinking in a bar having some fun isn’t what I consider need-to-know information for the general public. It just sucks a long tenured guy, with such a subtle smooth downblouse technique, had to lose his job over harmless bar shenanigans.
