For as long as I can remember aggressive, rattling, stout defense has been the one constant of Hokie football. Our defense has been the major reason for all of our post M Vick I successes. The wizard behind it all has been Coach Bud Foster and every Hokie’s nightmare is the day he decides to take a head coaching job outside of Blacksburg. I hate to say it, but that day is approaching soon.
Kyle Tucker (VT blogger extraordinaire) prodded Bud’s interest in Clemson past the typical “I’m only interested about the next game” answer
“I’d be stupid” not to go, Foster said. “That’s what you guys have all asked me for the last five years, six years. Who wouldn’t be (interested)? … That’d be one I’d be jumping through hoops to try to get. But at the same time, right now I can’t worry about that. All I can worry about is what I can control, and that’s trying to put the best defense on the field here.”
Damn it. He might not even be offered the Clemson job, but that’s not the point. He’s eyeing up the big chair and that’s not good. I was talking to a Tennessee fan when I was in Athens for Vols @ Dogs (more on that road-trip this week) and when I asked him who UT fans think would be a good replacement for Fulmer he immediately suggested Foster. Double damn it, other fan bases are coveting our hidden gem.
What can we do to stop the inevitable? For starters we could continue to bank on other universities passing Bud over. That is wishful thinking I know, since the job offers are only going to get better for Bud. The big time move would be to give him a “coach in waiting” contract. I don’t think that will happen either. The powers that be know Beamer isn’t going to be around for much longer and if they wanted to do that the wheels would be in motion. They might be in the we want a proven commodity to succeed Beamer boat and whether Bud would be a successful head coach is debatable. However, one thing is for sure the man deserves the opportunity.

No self-respecting program would hire that lout as the face of their program, as good a coach as he is. You are save

Unless he gets a Jimbo Fisher type of deal THIS season, he’s gone. Who talks about Clemson like that without already being ready to pack and go.
And can you imagine if Tenn offered him the job? He’d be a retard to not take that job; or Clemson for that matter.

@Shaun – Yeah if he gets offered either the Tennessee or Clemson job he should take it. He’s definitely earned the opportunity. I’de rather him end up out of the ACC so he doesn’t just own Stinespring and embarrass us year in and out.

I doubt that you’ll need to worry about Stinespring much longer.
