This week BIG RED Network is hosting the BlogPoll Roundtable and has come up with bevy of thought provoking questions
Q: Of the four presumed national title contenders to go down this past week–USC, Florida, Georgia, Wisconsin–which team has the best chance to get back in the race by the end of the year?
The team with the best chance is USC.  We can assume that loser of Florida Georgia is out of it.  The winner still needs to run the SEC gauntlet which isn’t too likely.  They will each lose another game.  Wisconsin doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt since everyone perceives the Big Ten to be weak because poor showings by tOSU in the last two MNC games.  However USC will get the benefit of the doubt. The wake-up call phoned in by Oregon St has been answered.  The will become focused and start dominating like they should with all that talent.
Q: But what does this mean for Ohio State? Are they back in?
Unfortunately yes they are. Â This season is already on pace to out due last year’s gigantic cluster fuck. Â The Buckeyes aren’t sitting pretty, but if they win out it is still possible.
Q: Did the week that was open the door for any of the undefeateds out of some of the non-BCS conferences like the Mountain West or the Big East? (Yup, that’s a cheap shot. Thanks, Virginia Tech for not allowing me to make it about the ACC.)
You’re welcome. Go Hokies.
Not it did not.
In my opinion one of the biggest problems in college football is perception. Â We perceive schools such as: BYU, Uconn and Utah as not being able to win against “traditional powers”. Â It is silly. In today’s “Parity Era” any school that wants to be competitive can be competitive. Â Eighty five scholarships and television contracts have leveled out the playing field.
However, there is no chance in hell that an undefeated Uconn, Northwestern or BYU \ Utah goes to the MNC. The talking heads will bring them up in the discussion and feel like they’ve done them a huge favor by doing so. Â But if South Florida runs the table they would be in, because we a perceive they are worthy because they beat Auburn last year and Kansas this year. Â If you are a new, rebuilt or non BCS program you have to have a two year run the MNC. Â One year proving yourself to everyone that matters and the next actually getting there.

I think BYU can get there, since they have a beatdown of a BCS conference team under their belt and they’ll have to go through Utah and TCU (both strong MWC teams). No one else in the country can be undefeated though.
Boise State paved the way for mid majors when they went 13-0 and knocked off Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. Sadly, though, Hawaii set BCS busters back a notch in a Sugar Bowl game they had no business being in.

@Brian
I think BYU deserves to be there if they run the table but even if they go undefeated I don’t think they will.
I cannot see an undefeated BYU getting in over 1 loss SEC Champ, 1 loss Big 12 Champ or USC.
