Go Hokies!

Over the last couple of year’s I’ve done my fair share of shitting all over Sean Glennon.  It was difficult watching two years of stellar defense being pissed away due to pathetic offense / quarterback play.  However, I think naming Glennon our starter is the right way to go to win this season and build for the future.  My argument for not playing Glennon last year at all was that our offensive line was shoddy at best.  We needed Tyrod behind center to not lose yards and make plays when the protection broke down.  For a true freshman Tyrod did an exceptional job, but he did make a lot of mistakes.  He needs his redshirt year to relax and learn the offense at a more comfortable pace. When given time in the pocket Glennon can be a very effective passer and a field general.  We return 4/5 starters on the o-line and I can see why Glennon is extremely confident in his ability and being able to lead us in 2008.

Even though I am sold on it, this move can backfire and fuck us over if any of the following happens

  • Glennon gets injured
  • Glennon sucks it up
  • We play a very conservative offense

There isn’t much we can do If Glennon gets injured.  If it is a big one we will need to bring in Tyrod and bite the bullet that he sat out games.  If it is a minor injury we might be able to get by with Cory Holt but we’ll have to see how the running game develops.  If Glennon sucks it up then this was the wrong move and we all have to live with it.  As I said above I think Sean will have a very good year if… We don’t play 1920’s no vertical pass in our offense football.  We might not have a homerun threat, but we still need to go deep!  We need to use Glennon’s live arm to our advantage and stretch out the defense more than we did in 2006.  I don’t care if we connect on 0 passes over 20 yards but for fuck sake at least show you are willing to go deep.  This conservative play calling really hurt Glennon in 2006.

All in all this is the right move for the Hokies.  My expectations are still high for 2008 and so should yours.  Anything less than an ACC Championship is a failure.  Hopefully Glennon will mimic my favorite VT QB of all time Bryan Randall and go out on a high note.

Sean Glennon barfs at your scepticism.

Favorite QB of all time, that’s lofty considering you didn’t even want him to be the starter in 03.

I would like to point out I have been a Randall backer since 2001 and never waivered in my support of the beloved #3.

I think Glennon will have a decent year if he plays within himself and gets protection. He reminds me quite a bit of the Druck (sans WSM competitions, woman battering, and coke dealing).

First game of the year, and guess what? Your right about the game proving something, but it wasn’t quite what you predicted. If there is any real thought going into winning some games, they will keep the newly de-redshirted Tyrod in as much as possible, and get him some good practice. I’m sure Glennon’s a good dude, and props for an obviously good summer of practice, but the high pressure of real games justisn’t doing him justice, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to start anytime soon. Sorry dude.
