Virginia Clutch…? More Like Pathetic.

I was perusing the TechSideline forum and ran across an interesting take on UVA football on the ESPN Blog Network.  To digress for a moment the ESPN Blog Network is a piece of shit.  It is missing the ability to slander and type out phrases such as “cock slap”.  The ESPN Blog Network is mostly a circle jerk of posts ranking the greatest teams or most clutch teams and this is where I’m going to cock slap them.

Heather Dinch is purporting that Virginia is the Today’s clutch team in the ACC.  Her argument is weak at best.  From her post:

  • The Cavaliers have won 10 of their 21 games over the past three seasons by five points or less.
  • They’ve won eight games since 2005 by three points or less.
  • There was also Virginia’s 2006 13-12 overtime win over Wyoming in 2006.

While this may be presented as being “clutch” I argue that UVA Football is actually pathetic.  These are their awesome clutch wins since 2005 and that teams final record:

  • Syracuse 1-10
  • Minnesota 7-5
  • Wyoming 6-6
  • UNC 4-8
  • Middle Tennessee St 5-7
  • Uconn 9-4
  • Maryland 6-7
  • Wake Forest 9-4

Only 3/8 teams had a winning record and the teams combined for a 52.7% winnigng percentage.  These aren’t clutch wins, they are pathetic “squeeker” victories.  Also part of being clutch is not losing to teams you should beat such as: Directional Michigan and East Carolina in 2006 and Wyoming and NC St in 2007.  Also not once in the last three years have they played Virginia Tech close.  If there were to walk into Blacksburg this year and win that would be clutch, but that isn’t going to happen.

UVA football is pathetic and not clutch.

Well, UVA is pretty much mediocre in football. But it still seems odd to me that a fan of a program that is never quite good enough to win a BCS bowl would be talking shit about any other program. That’s how the Jokies operate though. They figure if they say loud enough and often enough that they are an elite program, it will make it true. Meanwhile, they can’t carry the jocks of the true elite teams (Florida, LSU, Ohio State, USC, the list goes on). In fact, if Va Tech played in the SEC rather than the ACC (and Big East before that), that precious bowl streak that they cling to would not exist, because they would be struggling to hit .500 every year. LSU exposed them last year for what they are, a team that talks like one of the big boys but can’t back it up. See Frank Beamer’s record against Top 10 teams for further enlightenment.

Oh, and why would you put a picture of your fans vandalism and breaking and entering up as if it were something to be proud of? I guess that’s why your team gets so many unsportsmanlike conduct penalties every season, illegal behavior seems to be all the rage down there in Ole Virginny. That’s why old Ron Mexico is sitting in the pokey.

Wow will we lost to LSU on the road, we beat them at home. When did I once compare VT to Florida, USC, etc? I realize that the aren’t an elite team until they get a National Championship. What school did you go to \ root for?

You need to lighten up Will. College pranks are fun and games as long as nobody gets hurt, and being smart enough to pull off a VT on your rival’s field before the game is plenty to brag about (esp. if you crush them on their own turf).
