Tim Tebow should win The Heisman, because he is the most outstanding college football player of 2007. In my opinion, who you think should win the Heisman correlates to how you define and interpret the word outstanding. When it comes to the Heisman I like this definition best, “distinguished from others in excellence”. If I had a Heisman vote it would look like this:
- Tim Tebow
- Darren McFadden
In 2007 only Tim Tebow and Darren McFadden defined and helped redefine their respective positions. Even though Tebow plays quarterback and McFadden plays running back they both play GMTFRAIS (pronounced Jesus) Back. That is Give Me The Fucking Rock And I’ll Score back. Tebow is my choice for Heisman, because he is GMTFRAIS Back 1.
Traditionally a collegiate quarterback did either one of two things 95% of a game: ran or pass. With the spread option (and its variations) becoming more popular quarterbacks were being asked to blend playing styles. Up until now coaches wanted the Vince Young quarterback. A quarterback who could do an above average combination of: throw, scramble and carry the ball by design.
By excelling at being a punishing power back, pure passer, quick and deceptive runner and field general Tebow does that and more. He is the next generation. Coaches now want the next Tim Tebow. His dominance, versatility and ability to score have distinguished Tim Tebow from his peers more than any other player has at their position. Come December 10th he better win the Heisman.

I’m not up with the kids’ hip new internet slang. What does “GMTFRAIS” mean?

Disregard, I didn’t read the article before I posted. I’m a dumbass.

so the heisman should only go to a pair of guys who got stomped in pretty much every important game they played in? I heard there was this guy in Oregon who was pretty good too….

The difference in Vince Young and Tim Tebow is the prescence of another legitimate running threat. While Vince has guys like Selvin Young and Jamaal Charles to tote that rock when the read on the read option didn’t permit the QB to take the play. Tebow has no real RB next to him to speak of (and don’t even try, I live in the biggest den of Gator fans outside Gainesville, and I’ve watched all their games, and I’m not buying the “what about Percy Harvin” he’s a wingback at best) so ‘ol Timmy has to take the majority of carries in an offense designed around him anyway. Wait until next year, wait until Moody, after sitting patiently out with the Gators, steps on the field to be a real back for them. Then let’s see where Timbo’s numbers are. Then if he has 22 rushing TD’s I’ll talk about how good he is, but not a second before. He is a system product.

Oh and yeah, why does everyone hate on Chase Daniel? If he win’s the Big12 champoinship with a solid performance, shouldnt he get it?

I find it hilarious when people say Tebow shouldn’t win the Heisman because of the system he runs. This isn’t Texas Tech or Hawaii winging the ball 70 times a game in a largely gimmicky offense. The spread offense is no more a gimmicky system than the West Coast offense or an option offense, and how many guys have already won the Heisman running those offenses?
He may fit the system perfectly, but it’s not a gimmicky system designed to produce great stats but not actually beat anybody - it’s a system that wins, and Tebow runs it perfectly. He’s absolutely as deserving of the Heisman as every option back that ever won it - which is to say, a lot of them.

@fagan I am not hating on chase Daniel. Tebow is simply a better college qb and a more outstanding player.
The thing everyone needs to understand about quarterbacks and players is that they all play within a scheme.
I also think it is absurd to think that Florida won’t continue to use Tebow as a fullback when they need tough yards for first downs or touchdowns next year. The whole Florida offense will always run through Tebow.
@The_Overdog - If Dixon hadn’t missed 3/4 of the season he would have been #3 on the list.

@cgb
I don’t think you watched Dixon this year. Dixon missed less than 1/4 of the season not 3/4 and if you don’t have him on your ballot you should be required to watch Oregon V Michigan followed directly by Oregon V UCLA.
Dixon was the MVP of college football there is no question (would the Gators fail to score a single solitary point without Tebow, no.) But Dixon missing the end of the season will likely (and should) cost him the Heisman.

Also, he took a 4th and 3 50 yards to the house on a torn ACL. So even when he got hurt, he didn’t go quietly.

A yeah I made a typo. He basically missed a 1/4 of the season. I think Dixon is great, but unfortunately if AD couldn’t win the Heisman when he went out then neither can Dixon.

Darren McFadden split carries with another 1,000 yard back, had no passing game at all to protect him, he carried a huge bullseye, and played up to the competition like LSU. He played hurt as well. His worst games were when he was probably 70% healthy. Arkansas wins 0 conference games without McFadden!

No, I said his injury should cost him the Heisman. But I believe he should be honored on people’s ballots. Like I said, suffer through one Duck’s game without him and you will put his name in the three spot.

I agree the Duck’s are nothing without him, but the Heisman is about being the most outstanding player not a MVP. I think Tebow (regardless of the Dixon’s injury) is more outstanding than him.
