1998: Tom Brady, Steve Huthinson, Jerame Tuman, Tai Streets, David Terrell, Jon Jansen, Sam Sword, Dhani Jones, Ian Gold

Loss to Notre Dame, Syracuse & Ohio St.

Sure it's disappointing losing to Ohio St. and bowl games every year with talent, but it's not like this is the first time it's ever happened in the Carr era and they have been to 2 Rose Bowls in 4 years with the potential of a third rather than the zero trips to the Rose Bowl from 98-2002. So the Henne Hart Long years haven't exactly been failures, the expectations, including mine, have obviously been too high.

I think losing to OSU last November had to be one of the most disappointing losses for Michigan. Somehow, it seems like things would be different if they had won that game. Better recruits, probably some more momentum coming into this season, and I'm guessing Lloyd Carr wouldn't be on the verge of quitting.

I dont think that is the case though. Hart and Long are legit first rounders and Henne will probably go there as well. Leon Hall, Braylon Edwards and Marlin Jackson all were first rounders too. Carr recruits like an animal and gets top talent. They just never win the big game and always lose one game that you just have to shake your head at.

Or maybe they were just colossally overrated to begin with and achieved precisely what their talent and coaching ability should have allowed for?

Losing to Nebraska in the piss poor bowl or losing to App St. was their worst moment. Getting thumped by USC was mostly their secondaries fault. There is certainly a downward move from the Rose Bowl to App St. at the very least.
