Latest BCS Rankings - Oregon is Fucked

November 12th, 2007 · 6 Comments

The latest BCS rankings are out

  1. LSU 9-1
  2. Oregon 8-1
  3. Kansas 10-0
  4. Oklahoma 9-1
  5. Missouri 9-1

and it is no surprise to anyone that LSU is number one. The Bayou Bengals are getting healthier and gutted out the meat of their SEC schedule with only one loss in triple overtime. They are hands down the best team in the country. Personally I don’t understand why the media lets Oregon slide in their close loss to Cal yet still holds LSU accountable for losing to Kentucky. The good news for LSU is if (and when) they win out they will get to host a the National Championship Game in their backyard. However, if (and when) Oregon wins out they will have to settle for the Rose Bowl.

That’s right Duck fans you will be getting snubbed by the Big 12 Champion and best \ worst of all it doesn’t even matter who wins that conference. Oregon has already played their marquee games and because the Pac 10 doesn’t have a conference championship game there is no final stage to show off on. Unfortunately in college football, last impressions matter the most. Either Kansas or Missouri will play a 1 loss Oklahoma in the Big 12 Championship Game. The winner of that game will either be undefeated, Oklahoma or have 1 loss and arguably the biggest out of conference win of the year. Because the human polls make up 66% of the BCS rankings and pollsters will reward the Big 12 Champion and not drop LSU from number 1 the Ducks are going to be the odd team left out.

After this play

last year I personally hope it is Oklahoma doing the pitching.

I’m right there with you. As a matter of fact i said the same thing a few days ago. The only way Oregon gets in is if Oklahomo gets beat by Tech or OSU and then wins the B12 champ game. If your intersted here is my site The Big and the Brown .

You are probably right that Oregon will be jumped by the Big 12 champ, but should they be? Oregon has one loss against the #2-rated schedule in the country. Oregon has three wins against the BCS Top 25; no other team has more than two– Kansas has none.

Oregon might lose and make this all moot. But so might LSU. How about this realistic championship-game scenario? LSU loses to Georgia, Oregon loses once, and Missouri beats Kansas and Oklahoma: then you’d have Missouri vs. West Virginia for the title. I don’t see anyone with that as their predicted matchup.

Calm down sport, he’s just explaining how its gonna turn out. I hate the Pac10, cgb does not (we have had arguements on this before).

@Chuck Wright - I have said many times I think the Pac 10 is the second best conference in the country. The argument is weaker with USC having a down year, but I’m not a hater, my logic is sound and if you wanted to type fuck go ahead.

@Brian - I agree and I brought this point up in my post. Oregon has no where to go, but down. They have already played the meat of their schedule. LSU has a chance to look better against Arkansas and in the SEC Champ game and the same goes for Oklahoma versus either Kansas or Mizzou.
