Go Hokies!

Money Shot Rankings Week 6

  1. LSU - Les Miles showed off the grapefruits going 5/5 on 4th downs and playing to win.
  2. California - If Tedford can keep the Golden Bears focussed they will be playing for the National Championship.
  3. South Florida - It tooks the Bulls longer than expected to pull away from FAU, but they did.
  4. Oklahoma - Sam Bradford is making throws like an NFL veteran. This kid has the arm, but more importantly the touch.
  5. Ohio State - It worries me that an overrated Big Ten will propel the Buckeyes up the polls. However, they are winning with a solid defense and running game, not a flashy offense.
  6. Boston College - The Eagles will be tested for the first time October 25th in Blacksburg.
  7. Missouri - Shellacked Nebraska and beat a 4-1 Illinois team week 1. Chase Daniel is playing Heisman football.
  8. Oregon - The Ducks drop because of the off week.
  9. USC - You cannot excuse the Stanford loss, but Pete Carroll is going to have the Trojans on turbo for the rest of the season.
  10. Cincinatti - All they do is keep on winning.

CGB, solid picks but I would change just a few money shots.

1 Def LSU - They take on all challengers, beating quality teams throughout this year. They have absolutely made a believer out of me. I may have been reticent to recognize them at first, but they deserve the top spot.

2 Cal - Even though they didnt play, the last time they did they looked great. Longshore, Jackson and company are the team to beat in the Pac 10 right now.

3 South Florida - They almost had a let down game against FAU. They impressed me by not collapsing and coming together as a team to win. The most impressive fact about this team is that 10 years ago they did not exist, and now find themselves a top five team.

4 Ohio State - They finally put together a signature win over a ranked opponent and began to look like a top ten team. The only downside is that they havent beaten many good teams. They will continue to beat up weaker Big Ten teams until they see Michigan. Right now, they are top five though.

5 Boston College - Matt Ryan has lead his team to a superb 6-0. This team’s defense has played well all year. They wont be here for long though, after smashing ND next week, they will play VT. Va Tech looked like a completely different team against Clemson, Beamer Ball was at its finest. If I were BC, I would be having nightmares about the Hokies, could that lead to a trap game and a second ND win? No, but it may make the game closer, just a little.

6 Oklahoma - This team has grown up quick. The Red River Shootout was a very good test for how these youngsters would respond to a loss, and they responded well. Sam Bradford has been solid all season, Demarco Murray and Allen Patrick have filled All Day’s shoes nicely, they have their hands full this Sat though.

7 Oregon - Another Pac 10 team that had a bye week, they stay in the top ten because of the way they refused to fold against Cal. Dixon has a 6 to 1 TD to INT ratio, he has been the key to this teams success, he can run and throw, a huge help so far.

8 Mizzou - They absolutely eviscerated Nebraska. I mean they fucking killed them. Im not really sold on the Big 12, Missouri did beat The Zookers, but if they dont come to play next week their stay here will be short lived. Chase Daniel does look like the real deal, how much longer until his name is in The Race?

9 South Carolina - Their defense was the story on Thursday. Andre Woodson, who looked like the clear favorite in the Heisman, was under constant pressure. USC allowed him to complete about 50% of his passes, forced him to throw an INT, and sacked him 3 times. They are a serious contender in the SEC East.

10 Florida - This team is very young, but took the number one team in the country to the mat. Tim Tebow is also the only person, at least that I know of, who’s Heisman stock went up after a loss. Give Urban Meyer another year and they will play for another National Championship.

    On the Cusp….

USC (Cal) - John David Booty hurt his team alot by throwing 4 picks. Its true that this team has talent and is deep, but after a tough win on the road against Washington they couldnt afford to put the ball in the other teams hands that many times again. They had overcome 16 penalties for 160 yards, and 3 turnovers against the Huskies; but teams, no matter how talented, cannot win by doing that every week. This time, the turnovers and penalties caught up to them and Stanford capitalized.

Va Tech - Their Offense was shaky in their win against Clemson. They were out gained in total yards, passing yards, first downs, and T.O.P. But, their defense picked up the slack, allowing the supposed all world running back duo of Davis and Spiller only 12 yards combined. They also scored on D and Special Teams twice. If the Offensive line can get on track, this team belongs in the top ten. Tyrod has impressed me already this year with the mature approach he brings to this team, once he gets some help from the line lookout. Beamer Ball though, is truly the great equalizer, teams get themselves into big holes if they allow special teams TDs and defensive scores, its a hard thing to combat. A win vs BC will bring them back into BCS talks.
