Predictions: If VT Loses to Clemson I will be Pissed

It may no longer be “Blockbuster Saturday” but starting tonight this is the best weekend of games so far this season. There are 7 games featuring two Top 25 teams.  I am excited.  I am really hoping that ABC decides to broadcast Purdon’t v Ohio St nationally instead of the weekly Notre Dame blowout.  Brent Musburger is going to be at Purdon’t so that is good (bad) news.  The last time games this good were on Virginia Tech got owned at LSU.  The Hokies travel to Clemson this week.  I am no longer confident we can beat a Pop Warner team.  We have looked absolutely awful in our last three wins against terrible teams.  Losing at Death Valley for a second time this season would blow. My one message to the team is, get your fucking shit together and dominate.  Now on to the picks.

  • Kentucky 31@ USC 27
  • Wisconsin 17 @ The House that Zook is Building 24
  • Oklahoma 38 v Texas 21
  • Georgia 24 @ Tennessee 17
  • Virginia Tech 21 @ Clemson 10
  • Cincinnati 14 @ Rutgers 17
  • Ohio St 28 @ Purdon’t 21
  • Florida 24 @ LSU 21
  • Nebraska 24 @ Missouri 28

This is cgb for CollegeGameBalls sports.

CGB, good picks, and last week you had some solid upset calls.

Kentucky is 0-14 against the Ol Ball Coach. Both of these teams have lofty rankings, but this will prove to be an entertaining game. USC ranks first in the nation for pass defense, but Andre Woodson is the best QB in college football right now. Big, intelligent, and accurate, he is definitely a game changer for the Wildcats.
    Kentucky 35 - USC 28

Wisconsin is untested. Plain and simple, they have a ridiculous ranking due to the fact they are undefeated against weaker teams and everyone in front of them lost. They struggled often this season and have yet to put a team away early on in a game. Illinois fought back against Missouri week one and just upset Penn St. Ron Zook has this program on the up turn, but this could be a let down week for them. Wisconsin after a near loss last week, wont be overlooking the Fighting Zooks.
    Wisconsin 38 - Illinois 27

Onto the Red River Shoot Yourself. Both teams stumbled last week to unranked opponents, that probably saved the shootout this year, as both teams need this win to keep their conference title hopes from drifting away. Texas has looked vulnerable all year, and Colt McCoy hasnt been the same stud QB since he got his bell rung last year. With more INTs than TDs this year, McCoy is under pressure. Couple that with the QB he is facing has the highest rating in college football and this game will turn into a shootout quick. The key here will be Oklahoma applying enough pressure to McCoy to force him to make poor decisions and force throws, resulting in turnovers.
    Oklahoma 42 - Texas 23

Tennesse hasnt had trouble scoring this year, that much is evident. They are lacking in the defensive department though, allowing 106 points in their two losses. In both of those losses to ranked teams Tenn has scored only 3 points in the 4th quarter. UGA, on the other hand, has shown that it has the ability to play all 4 quarters. They cameback against Bama in OT and kept up with USC. To me, that will be the difference maker in this game. Tenn will start off bright, but dim down the line.
    UGA 28 - Tenn 21

Va Tech, has not looked like the team I thought they would be this year. Offensive line issues, QB issues, and poor running performances have plagued this team. Their D, though, remains one of the toughest in football. Clemson, has a high powered offense this season with decent performances from its QB, and the RB duo of Spiller and Davis. But, they did fail to score against Ga Tech’s D last week. This is a good match up for these teams with the edge going to VT and its blue collar D. Beamer ball will be in full effect and keep VT in control of the game. The Hokies in a close one.
    Va Tech 17 - Clemson 14

Cincy has its best start in decades, just as Rutgers did last year. All the swings in the Big East lead me to believe this conference is overrated, and plays weak out of conference opponents. Cincy ruined Rutgers BCS hopes last year. Rutgers BCS hopes are ruined already this year, looks like the Scarlet Knigths can return the season ruining favor to an undefeated Cincy. Rutgers D, remains tight, Mike Teel and Ray Rice comeback strong and overcome Cincy with talent.
    Rutgers 31 - Cincy 17

Ohio St, another overrated Big Ten team in the top ten, has its first test this season against Purdont. Purdont, a team that no one has payed much attention to is 5-0 after beating absolutely no one. I could care less who wins this game. But OSU has better athletes and coaching, they pass their first exam with an A.
    Ohio St 41 - Purdont 24

Game of the week. Gators vs Tigers. Both these teams are loaded top to bottom, inside and out with speed, size, strength, and natural ability. Last week I would have said LSU wins hands down, but after Florida suffered its first loss this season Urban Meyer will have his team ready. LSU’s nasty D vs Tim Tebow’s athletic ability will make this a very exciting game to watch. If Florida can pull off this upset, they will most likely meet LSU again in the SEC Championship. Im will be watching for Heisman hopeful Tim Tebow to be the game changer in this match up. If they shut down the pass, he can run, if they stop the run, he can burn them deep. Tebow makes an D Coordinator scratch his head and say “How the fuck do we stop him?” Even in a loss against Auburn Tebow accounted for 200 yards passing and 1 TD, with one more TD on the ground.
    Florida 33 - LSU 28

Also, Kansas upsets Ron Prince and the power towel.
    Ga Tech beats Maryland
and finally PSU continues its on field woes and loses to Iowa.

Nice picks. I picked the LSU upset also and i’m really feeling it.. and I hope to god that Tech can go in and beat Clemson 21-10 but i don’t have a good feeling about this one, based on how terrible and boring the offense has been thus far. So i have clemson beating tech but i would love to be wrong.

Clemson has been inconsistent often, some games they show up to, like the Bowden Bowl. Other times they dont show up at all like the Ga Tech. They also beat three very weak teams in between those performances. VT has also been rather inconsistent themselves, but their D has been solid (not counting the loss to LSU.) If the offensive line can give Tyrod time, he has an opportunity to become the playmaker of this game. The Hokies D and special teams play and Tyrod’s athletic ability should be enough to beat Clemson. It may be ugly, it may be close, but I honestly think Va Tech will win.
