The biggest game this week is USC traveling to Lincoln to take on Nebraska. As such, that means Brent Musburger will be calling the game. Everyone knows I hate Brent. I’de rather match, through sight and sound, bowls of diarrhea to their creators (is that the right word? \ new Japanese game show?) than listen to him. He needs to make every call as dramatic as possible and seems like an attention craving whore. At least there is the Brent Musburger drinking game.
My picks last week were pretty good. I called the South Florida and USC upsets, but blew the Oregon and VT games. I was biased in my VT pick and as usual they let me down. I am looking to dominate this week.
West Virginia 35 @ Maryland 27
Tennessee 16 @ Florida 21
Notre Dame 17 @ Michigan 24
Louisville 42 @ Kentucky 31
Boston College 13 @ Georgia Tech 24
Arkansas 21 @ Alabama 20
USC 41 @ Nebraska 21

I agree with all of your picks except I think bama will knock off Arkansas. I also think Florida will drop 35 or so on Tennessee. That USC-Nebraska score sounds really on point though.

Joe, great picks, I agree with almost all of them.
Although Maryland’s defense is 15th in the country vs the run, hasnt let up more than 200 totals yards, or a hundred yard rusher, they havent been tested. Villanova and FIU arent exactly quality opponents. I believe WVU’s spread offense is too much for the Terrapins to handle. The threats of Pat White, Heisman hopeful Steve Slaton and now emerging from their shadows Noel Devine and Darius Reynauld will be too much for them to overcome. WVU can not only run with great efficiency but also pass, their D may suck but their O keeps them rolling. WVU 42- Maryland 28.
The SEC game of the week. Tenn vs Florida. Florida’s first of many tests this season. Tenn moved the ball well earlier in the year against Cal. Not to compare Pac 10 D to SEC D, but I dont think Florida will grind them to a halt. After all, they did allow a sun belt team to put up 31 points on them. Florida moves the ball well itself, but falls into the catergory of untested teams, so its hard to evaluate them properly. If Tenn’s game against Cal is any indicator Tenn wont put up much of a fight. Instead of a classic baseball like SEC score, look for a classic Pac 10 shoot out. Big plays downfield by Ainge and Tebow make this an exciting game to watch. Florida 38- Tenn 28.
And now onto to the toilet bowl. Let me just say as a ND fan, I am thoroughly disappointed with Charlie Weis and this seasons start. I have stated earlier that unlike so many who already have, I am not ready to jump on his baby dick and ride his belly like a water bed. I will say Forde hit the nail on the head with an article he wrote on ESPN.

Not sure if thats gonna end up linked, but copy and paste works too.
Michigan has struggled on D against fast spread offenses, and hasnt mustered much on O. I called it in the summer that Michigan was overrated, Henne sucked and Hart was brittle. Now look, Henne caused alot of the offensive problems by throwing the ball up for grabs, and Hart hasnt played a full game. Against better judgement I predicted a win from them last week, but this week I am sticking with them. My ND bias should pick for the Irish, but i simply cannot. They cannot generate an consistency on O and their D while improved over last year is still terrible. Michigan is back to playing teams in the Big Ten + 1, which is where their Defense actually plays well. Henne out is a blessing, Hart produces on the ground.
Michigan 34- ND 14.
Michigan and ND arent the only teams with defensive issues. Louiville, last week had trouble stopping the blue raiders. The difference being they have talent on offense. The defense cant afford to give up big plays to Kentucky with Andre Woodson at the helm. This instate rivalry turns ugly quick. Both teams are top ten in total yards, rushing yards and points scored. Look for them to hit the 100 point mark early in the 4th quarter, with Louisville pulling ahead to win. Louiville 56- UK 49.
Ga Tech’s defense is solid, Choice is healthy and looks good running, and they finally have a QB. But BC is coming off a solid win against a Wake Forest team that came within 3 of upsetting Nebraska last week. Time for the Upset Special in the ACC. BC, 4th in the nation against the run, prevents Choice from getting loose and pulls off the upset on the arm of Matt Ryan. BC 28- GT 17.
Now for the SEC upset alert. Nick Saban, looking for a big win to validate his even bigger salary, attempts to pull off an upset against Houston Nutt. Arkansas off a bye week, has D Mac with fresh legs. Thats all she wrote. Alabama struggled last week against Vandy, they are taking steps in the right direction, but this year just isnt theirs. Give Saban another year or two of recruiting and then we will see. Even with Ark untested, the MAC FACtor, keeps them in control of this game. It may be close but Ark wins.
Ark 28- Bama 14.
And finally, because this post is much longer than I originally intended it to be. USC off the bye week comes in flat, but due to superior athletic talent takes control of the game in the 2nd quarter and doesnt let go. USC 42- Nebraska 24.

I heard other blogs referring to the Michigan ND game as “Cripple Fight 2007″
4Mikey H on Sep 13, 2007 at 10:08 am:
Hahahahahahaha Cripple Fight. Count it.
5Shaun on Sep 13, 2007 at 10:29 am:
Thanks for the tip.. and yes, you know damn well ESPN and so many others will be all over Bama if they win saying that “they are back” and that will get old and annoying real fast haha. You’ll end up hearing stupid projections from Lee Corso and Lou Holtz saying stuff like Bama will win a title within the next 3 years or other preposterous statements
6polish on Sep 13, 2007 at 10:39 am:
Lou Holtz also thinks that ND will bounce back and run the table this year. He says their defense is not getting the respect they deserve and the offense is poised for a breakout weekend.
7Mikey H on Sep 13, 2007 at 11:34 am:
Polish, CGB and I have been discussing how Lou Holtz has been slowly slipping into senility. His predictions about ND are ridiculous, I thought Herbstreit calling for 8 wins was a huge stretch, let alone 10 from Holtz. As for ND’s defense, well the proof is in the pudding. Letting up more than 30 points in every big game they have played from the BCS game against OSU until now doesnt deserve respect. Also, the swing pass doesnt lead to breakout weekends Lou, it does lead to no run game and no offensive touchdowns tho.
Shaun, good point about Bama, if they do win we will hear the same shit we heard when ND almost beat USC. The storied program is back, this coach is a genius, give him a year and there will be a number one ranking and national title to go with it. Except now ND is on a 4 game losing streak with no end in sight.

Quick thoughts:
I think UT-UF will be more one-sided than that, with UF scoring early and often. Maybe to the tune of 38-13.
Louisville and UK will post more points than that as well, probably a 63-56 kinda game, should be fun to watch.
My office is pretty much all UMd so come 3oclock today, they’re all piling in the cars and driving 20 mins to College Park to tailgate. This brings up two issues: first, I’m surprised they come anywhere close to filling that stadium and second, I wish I lived closer to Bburg…
