JaroslavHasek: You nailed it...its typical of the Southern mentality, to engage in passive-aggressive pleasantries (the ubiquitous 'bless your heart' comes to mind), only to rely upon threats when their obviously insincere 'civility' isn't returned. Jesus wept, some loud-mouthed RU fans trash-talked a football team! So it somehow undermines the military by the extremely tangential act of shouting obscenities at a players on their team? Where have I heard that argument before...?

Also, VTBaZ? Time to take off the rose-colored hearing aid if you think prurient language isn't the norm during SEC and Big 12 games. The rabid clan mentality of Southerners leaves me a bit dubious as to your claims. This selective hearing on your part dovetails nicely with the percentage of folks in that region who claim to be regular churchgoers, as opposed to the numbers who actually attend.

Though what Rutgers fans did is not the most classiest of actions, I can't completely berate them. A lot of good points have been made but I will say this.. a lot of the schools that you are mentioning are well established, mega programs. The Tenn's, the USC's, the Georgia's, Florida's etc don't have to talk shit to inferior teams because they've been there done that. They have bigger fish to fry and know which games are valuable and which are not in the larger scheme of things. When I was at Virginia Tech, most of us were gone by halftime and wouldn't even be around to talk trash to the cupcake teams that we played.

However, when our basketball team suddenly got better, I heard fans saying nasty stuff to opponents that wasn't even necessary. The reason? Because our basketball team hasn't done jack in the past and every win we got was a celebration it seemed like. That being said, Rutgers football fans are like rookie college football fans when it comes to success. They haven't had any real success before so they don't know any better yet. I'm sure, when they get better and more established in the coming years, you won't hear about this kind of stuff because they'll save it for their big games.

Also, it takes those selected, classless drunk guys to get your stadium to a level that Lane Stadium is at. You don't become an intimidating place to play at by clapping for inferior teams. And as much as I hate WVU because our rivalry, I'm not going to say their fans suck because they make Morgantown intimidating as hell. I know for a FACT, that there were a lot of tech kids who didn't want to go there for one of our games a few years ago because of the fights and threat of getting jumped. So I gotta give Rutgers a pass on this one... If they're still like this five years from now, I'll be the first to call them out.

I've never been to a Rutgers game or NJ, but I can also tell from reading this one post on the internet and nothing else that all Rutgers students and the state of NJ is classess and a disgrace to college football. This truely proves that the SEC and the South is better than Rutgers and the North. And who does this asshole Ken Dynamo think he is, calling people pussies on the internet? when people call me names on the internet i want to fight them. i need people to know that in REAL LIFE i am not a pussy and would punch someone's face if they called me names. I have to prove this because i am an insecure dickless faggot.

I agree with VTBaz on all accounts. Hell, I envy crowds that can do cheers together, united behind their team. (I also think it's BS that "Stick it in" is under fire) Rutgers fans are still young in the ways of big-time college ball, so they are apt to act like they do at pro events: like total ass-hats. (I kinda wish we could play a home and home series again, just to keep tabs on how things are progressing.) Back to the issue at hand, fans who resort to obscenities are undeserving of their seats. If you want to heckle, do it in good spirit. The thing I regret most about this whole situation (beyond the disrespect towards a great bunch of players) is that I get clumped in with those losers who aren't creative enough to follow the cheers or think of something witty to say that isn't R-rated. Shaking my head in Scarlet disgust,

VTBAZ, I'm going to have to agree with you on the difference between Rutgers and SEC schools. I went to to Tulane but I have been in multiple SEC environments for games. The whole atmosphere is completely different just to start. In Alabama, Saturday's in the fall are huge, for those 3 hours when Alabama or Auburn is playing, depending on your allegiance, the whole state is dialed in like it's the most important event in history. At the same time, as much as the students care about each game they have a level of respect for the history of the schools involved and game. The students at Rutgers and WVU have no excuse for their actions; nevertheless, they are only doing a disservice to themselves and the schools they represent. Roll Wave
