Throughout his tenure as athletic director Jim Weaver has done some good for Hokie Nation. Most notably he oversaw Lane Stadium renovations, helped Virginia Tech gain acceptance into the ACC and reemphasized student athlete. The following quote is from his personal bio at hokiesports.com, “One thing he [Joe Paterno] said certainly has stuck with me. ‘You either get better or you get worse. You never stay the same.’”
Unfortunately, things have gotten worse. Our gains have and will continue to cost us our pride and tradition. The west side expansion of Lane Stadium included the removal of the “Home of the Fighting Gobblers” sign. Many people tried to stop this from happening. One of them was not Jim Weaver. One petition from tailgatefever.com says, “What’s next? Get rid of the cannon? Get rid of the Highty Tighties? Get rid of cheering all together?”
We may never get rid of cheering all together, but tonight Jim Weaver announced that “Stick it in, Stick it in, Stick it in” will be done away with. I was late listening to the announcement, but was told his reasoning was it was not appropriate for a family atmosphere. Please someone contact me if I am wrong. I called into the radio show and was told by the board operator that no questions on that subject would be allowed as it is closed. It is one thing to make a controversial decision, but it is quite another not to defend your argument.
I understand the need to keep Lane from turning into Southern Exposure, but taking away at best argument a slight sexual innuendo is hardly the way to do it. “Stick it in, Stick it in, Stick it in”, is another tradition I don’t want to lose. Furthermore, I would like the next generation of Hokie to be able to experience it.

He should be fired. He has done enough damage to stadium atmosphere in his few years as AD. We have not only lost “Home of the Fighting Gobblers” but we have lost the band’s playing of “Goodbye.” We are now bombarded with noxious “Hokie Respect Cartoons.” He has whined about and even attempted to ban Booing. Now, Tonight, we learn that yet another fan favorite has been banned. Enough is enough. This man should be tarred, feathered, fired and paraded down mainstreet like the goal posts were in ‘99 after an undefeated season.
Fire Jim Weaver!

this is a shame. weaver is slowly taking all of the fun out of going to a game at lane and robbing the future generation of hokies of their traditions. i have a feeling that the crowd will keep this one alive with or without the band.
stolen from cgb: weaver can tell us how to act at games as soon as he starts paying for our tickets and hotel rooms when we head back to blacksburg. until then, fuck off.

Yeah he is also responsible for holding us to noon kickoffs, canceling the Wisconsin series and starting the lottery system instead of letting more dedicated fans camp for tickets. He definitely needs to be fired.

He is a total, complete, and utterly worthless douchebag. I have hated him for the longest time and this just polarizes my feelings about him. He brings nothing good to the table. We want to take that next step into the true big time (as opposed to the probationary big time status we are at now) and he thinks by doing so, we have to sacrifice our character. I refuse to let our program turn into a bland, vanilla, cookie cutter experience.
The good thing: neither will the students. Keep on keepin on!

Everyone hates him. I’ve hated him from the first decision I ever heard him make. hence I have created ‘fire jim weaver’ t-shirts. The link from my name should go there if anyone is interested. I will be wearing mine, hope to see you out there.
