Evolution of The Herd

April 5th, 2007 · 1 Comment

I used to be a big fan of The Herd, not so much anymore.  I was pulled in as a part time listener when I heard the clip of Colin ragging on UVA.  As a VT alumni, hearing a prominent radio figure bag on UVA was music to my ears.  Over the last year I have been a 3 hour a day listener.  Howver, over the last couple of months I’ve noticed he is slowly crossing the line between edgy sports radio host, to shock jock and today was a great example.

Today just made me realize I am listening to an idiot for 3 hours a day.  He defended his position about not mentioning the passing of Eddie Robinson on yesterday’s show because his demographic could care less.  It is a valid point in his world of ratings over content.  However, if he really thought Robinson was a great man he could have omitted ratings magnet “metube” or ramblings about his diet in favor of a few words.

The segment “Breaking the Web” came on and after listening to it you could tell he was happy with the potential of bullying the small guy.  In this case thebiglead, referred to as a place where “sportswriters go to bitch about each other”. False.   If you haven’t listened to the clip Colin (or maybe Colon since shit is coming out of him lately) asked every listener at once to visit thebiglead with the goal of overwhelming the site to make it unresponsive.  Your typical DoS attack.  He succeeded and the site is still down as of 3:40pm EST. Congratulations Colin you are awesome.  If it were me I would be trying to figure out some legal action to, at the very least, make him look like an ass and give the dot com a black eye.
