Archive for April 2007
I would imagine giving birth is some what like watching the NFL draft. Anticipation builds and swells for weeks and weeks. On the morning of you cannot wait any longer and are bursting with excitement. Then after the first hour you just want the fucking thing to be over.
This is what I took away from the draft this weekend:
- Mike Tirico is a duche.
- Most people are talking about Brady Quinn’s long draft wait or his loss of money. However what about Jaws? He was foaming at the mouth like a rabid dog waiting for Quinn to be picked so he could break down his ability to throw seam routes into the end-zone.
- The Patriots are geniuses. I can’t stay on Belicheck’s nuts long enough. I honestly believe they had a star-wars-ish seeing glimpses of the future moment a year ago when trading away Deion Branch to Seattle. They end up getting a first rounder for Branch from Seattle. They use that first rounder to fill a depth need at safety. Then they trade their first round pick to San Fransisco for their first round pick in 2008 and fourth round pick. They then trade the fourth round pick to Oakland for Moss. So in the end they get Moss, another first rounder in 2008 (probably one better than the 2007 pick) all because they were able to raise the stock on Branch and sell to desperate market.
- Chris Berman is only palatable in small doses.
- Really awesome to see Frank Beamer talk before the drafting began. Go Hokies.
- Roger Goodell just looks like the uncomfortable guy at the party. You know the one.
- After the Miami Dolphins picked Tedd Ginn Junah I laughed out loud hysterically in my empty apartment.
- Why was everyone hating on USC?
- Mr. Irrelvant 2007 Ramzee Robinson was a former member of T.I.’s Pimp Squad Clique.

This is my meager draft contribution. I will watch the draft on Saturday, but I am not a draft expert. In no way could I pick a future pro-bowler out of the 4th through 6th round (except maybe Brian Leonard). However, I can call teams stupid for passing on certain players who I think if healthy will dominate.
- Calvin Johnson – If he is on the board and you pass immediately re-evaluate life. The guy is an athletic freak and posted all time combine numbers. Message to the Raiders, this guy is the sure thing. If you don’t want to draft him trade your fucking pick and get value for it.
- Adrian Peterson – You’re wih me AD. Peterson is the equivalent of a 2 ton pickup truck that goes 0-60 4.5 seconds. He is that strong, fast and explosive. If he is on the board, he is better than your running back. You should pick him.
- Patrick Willis – Butkus award winning beast out of Ole Miss who completely shat all over SEC offenses. He is going to be a total stud at MLB for someone.
- Joe Thomas & Joe Staley – Typically (unless you are the Raiders), drafting a huge tackle with 3+ years of playing experience yields a franchise player. These guys still haven’t reached their potential and will continue to get bigger, faster and stronger. I am hoping Staley will fly under the radar and fall into the Giants lap.

I wanted write a quick post to spread the word about the support and sympathy left by some of the other blogs and communities out there. UVA students formed a group Hoos for Hokies, something I never thought I would see. With Leather, Every Day Should be Saturday and my best friend Simon at SimonOnSports had reflective heartfelt kind words to say. Awful Announcing (a JMU student) talks about Hokie Respect. Finally Nick Dallamora over at fanhouse (a 3rd year CS (like me) math major) gives a first hand look at what is happening at Tech.
After watching the convocation, seeing the faces of my fellow Hokies and hearing President Bush and Governor Tim Kaine speak I am more heavy-hearted and teary eyed than yesterday. With that said, I am more proud to be a Hokie today than any other day in my life.

Anyone who reads this blog knows I am a life long Hokie. I spent the best four years of my life in Blacksburg and never thought I would see it raped of its innocence. I thought today would be like any other Monday and nothing could really prepare me for the events that transpired. By now everyone knows the story. Thirty three people are dead and many more wounded by a monster of a man. Right now 13 hours later I still have the wind knocked out of me. In the days to come, amid politcian’s talk about gun control and the media’s critique of how the situation was handled by police let’s not forget what really happened on April 16, 2007. My thoughts are with my fellow Hokies and their families.

The NFL released the 2007 schedule yesterday. Some of the more interesting \ better games to me seem to be:
- 9/6 Saints @ Colts: I wonder what the over \ under on this game is going to be?
- 9/16 Chargers @ Patriots: The Bolts are going to be fired up to win this game after losing to the Pats in the playoffs resulting in Martyball getting canned and their whole coaching staff being depleted.
- 9/30 Texans @ Falcons: Schauby v Mexico in the Dirty Dirty…
- 10/7 Jets @ Giants: Jet-lag? Pun intended.
- 10/14 Patriots @ Cowboys: Oh wait, this would have been interesting if Tony Romo didn’t botch a hold and Parcells was still the coach.
- 11/4 Patriots @ Colts: Without a doubt the game everyone is waiting to see this year.
- 11/12 49ers @ Seahawks: Could be showdown for the new best in the west.
- 12/30 Sainst@ Da Bears: Playoff seeds will be on the line here.
With the draft looming we should all take a step back and have a hearty laugh over the jets organization.

Purdon’t coach Joe Tiller closed practices for good citing bloggers as the reason.
I’m tired of blogging and guys talking about our practices, and postings, and all that (B.S.). All’s it is is more problems than it is value.
Basketball on grass is going to be awful again this year and it seems like Tiller doesn’t want to let the cat out of the bag early. Taking a look at the schedule Purdue has a chance to do the same thing as last year, start off looking strong against cream-puffs and then fade away like a fart. I predict they will go 4-0 to start the season and then 2-6 to finish. Around the 8th game all the Boiler fans can jump aboard the “Surprise We Suck Train” again.
