Go Hokies!

Top Out of Conference Games for 2007

In no particular order, these are the five best games that will have the biggest impact on the National Championship, BCS and provide conference bragging rights:

  • September 15 - USC at Nebraska: Last year Nebraska’s potent offense was deflated quickly against a swarming Trojan defense. Both units figure to be better again this year and transfer QB Sam Keller knows the Trojans. In a weak Big 12 a huge out of conference victory and clean conference slate could easily spring board the Huskers to the National Championship. Conversely, this game would just be another line on an already impressive USC resume.
  • September 8 - Virginia Tech at LSU: The Tigers traveled to Blacksburg in their 2002 opener and were sent home 26-8 losers. This game pits two teams who lack star quality at the quarterback position with fast, athletic and hard hitting defenses. The ACC really needs a Hokie win to bring back some legitimacy to the conference. Both the Hokies and Tigers need a win to stay alive in the National Championship hunt with brutal conference schedules.
  • September 1 - Tennessee at California: Last year California got beat like Tommy Lee’s drum. Can California get out of the gate fast and return the favor?
  • September 8 - Miami at Oklahoma: Both have something to prove. Oklahoma after losing to Boise State and Miami and (former defensive coordinator \ new head coach) Randy Shannon after going 7-6 last year. Both teams have a slew of talent and great defenses and it should be a great game.
  • September 8 - TCU at Texas: If the Horned Frogs can pull this one out a BCS bowl is showing up in the crystal ball.
